Ciprofloxacin DESCRIPTION

Ciprofloxacin is a 4- quinolone derivative, a ynthetic antibacterial agent synthe a greater intrinsic antibacterial activity These substances are also knowna as gyrase inhibitors.

Mechanism of action

Ciprofloxacin INDICATIONS

Ciprofloxacin indicated for the treatment of the following bacterial infections ;

• Usnary tract infections Gastrointestinal infections
• Also,Gonorrhea
• Intra-abdominal infections. SkySoft tissue infections
• Also,Bane Jont infections
• Also, Septicaemis

DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION:

Also, General dosage recommendation of Also,  Ciprofloxacin tablets is determined by the severity and type of infection.

Adur:

Also,The dosage range is 260-750 mg tece daily.

Infections of upper and towecurnagcinach

Also,Depending on severity of infection, 250-750 mg twice daily.

Respiratory tract infection (both upper and lower) Depending on severity of infection, 250-750 mg

Also,twice daily Known Streptococcus pneumoniae infections

The recommended dosage is 750 mg twice daily

CONTRAINDICATION:

Ciprofloxacin is contraindicated in patients who have shown hypersensitivity to Ciprofloxacin.

PRECAUTIONS about Ciprofloxacin

Ciprofloxacin should be used with caution in patients with a history of convulsive disordens Increased serum levels of thecohylline have been observed following concurrent administration of ather quinolones.

DRUG INTERACTIONS:

The simultaneous administration of Ciprofloxacin and theophylline can lead to an unwanted increase in the serum the ophyline concentration, thereby producing the ophyline induced side effects. If the concomitant administration of these two drugs is unavoidable the serum concentration of theophylline should be checked and its dosage should be reduced accordingly.

PREGNANCY AND LACTATION:

Pregnancy Category C

There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women, as such it should not be used during pregnancy unless the potentiat benefita out weigh the potential risk to the foetus.

Nursing mothers

Ciprofloxacin is excreted in human milk.

ADVERSE EFFECTS of Ciprofloxacin

The following adverse effects have been observed:

Nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, digestive disc.ders, abdominal pain, flatulence and anorexia may occur.
